Growing up, Easter was a BIG day at church for my family. We’d get all dolled up in outfits that were an upgrade from our usual Sunday’s best and don the spiffiest clothes of the year. Yes, Easter was a fancy fashion show, and I loved every moment of it. But no matter how nice our shoes were or how sharp my brothers’ suits were, nothing compared to the over-the-top fabulous Easter Sunday church hats that took center stage.
Although I have always held these fanciful hats in high regard, I have never really been an Easter Sunday church hat wearer. BUT, a fabulous bonnet I have been known to sport on an Easter or two. 🙂
These days, I prefer to make my show-stopping headgear and so does my little one. My daughter, Miss J, and I whipped up floral headbands with all of the spring-inspired accoutrements, such as pretty birdies, colorful butterflies, and the such.
This project is super simple. Gather these few supplies:
- a plastic headband
- synthetic flowers
- birds, butterflies, or other spring-like accessories
All of the above can be found at your favorite crafts shop. First, detach the flowers from their plastic stems by pulling them apart. Place them on the table in an arrangement that you find pleasing.
Then wind the wire onto the headband a few times, overlapping itself so that it “locks” into place.
Begin threading the wire through the hole in the center of the flower.
Bring the wire back to the headband to secure the flower in place by tucking it behind a petal and winding it tight onto the headband. Repeat until all of the flowers are on. At the end, wrap the wire in place on the headband a few times overlapping to ensure your arrangement remains intact indefinitely.
Cut additional wire to attach the accessories. Wherever there is an opening in the accessory or an inconspicuous way to attach a birdie or nest to the arrangement, do so and keep in place by winding the wire in place around the headband. The flowers will disguise the wire wrapping. In some cases, such as our scenario with the butterflies, you can simply clip an accessory onto a flower petal.
Once everything is attached as you like it, it is done. Flaunt it on Easter Sunday and be the belle of the ball.
