If the pre-teen in your life is anything like mine, she lives for FASHION. My 11-year old princess loves to express her individuality through her fashion sense and the only thing as important to her as her high grades is high fashion! With this in mind, I help her bring her own sense of style to the décor of her room. One easy way to do so is this fun DIY project:
All you’ll need is a small trash bin, Modge Podge, a glue gun, a medium-small paint brush, scissors, a fashion magazine and lace or ribbon for trim.
- Get your small plastic trash bin. The one we used was $1 at the Dollar Tree.
- Tear out enough fashion images from the magazine to cover the full exterior of the trash bin. Tear. Don’t cut if you want to have the cool, rugged edges.
- Cover the exterior of the trash bin with a thin layer of Modge Podge then apply a thin layer to the back of each torn magazine page and press in place in the order you see fit. Once the entire exterior is covered, brush on a thin layer of Mod Podge to seal the collage.
- Let dry for 2 hrs. Once dry, hot glue the ribbon, lace or trim of your choice around the perimeter of the opening.
Mission accomplished! Fancy trash bin for your fancy young lady will be a hit for years to come!
How do you help your young ones express their creativity and individuality in their bedroom’s decor? I’d love to know! Please leave comments or tweet me @jypsealeather.
