The start of a new year has a nostalgic feeling that makes me want to lift my face to the the sun where the possibilities are endless and so are the blessings. It’s like you are given a clean slate and a new beginning where you can start with a new set of goals. I even almost believe the superstition that who you are with and what you are doing when the clock strikes midnight is setting the tone for what you’ll be doing for the rest of the year.
What I left behind in 2015…
Although I’m happy, more like ecstatic, to start the new year, I can’t help but reflect on 2015. Like life, 2015 had its ups and downs which felt more like amazing moments, crazy nonsense, and things that made me shake my head and even roll my eyes at times. The highlights of 2015 truly centered around the goals that I made for myself for the year and a couple of other unexpected surprises. The most important goals were to relaunch and rebrand Diana Studios, my interior design business and partial namesake, launch the Passionistas website (!!), and appear in a mainstream magazine for interior design. I’m happy to say that all of these goals were accomplished and I appeared in not 1 but 2 issues of Ebony! But alas, there were the downs, such as the painful process to get the Passionistas website up and perfect (a story for another day).
What I dream of in 2016…
Most of my goals are business related except for one, however, I’m not ready to share what my goals are just yet. I will say that all my goals involve knowledge, creativity, and growth. The things I am the most passionate about are the things that I want to know everything about. Why would one not want to be an expert in what they love? Creativity can be halted in moments of stress, I’m hoping that my creativity flourishes organically and freely (like a waterfall).
What is my one non-business related goal? Travel. I have not been on vacation since 2012 when I went to Istanbul, and my mind, body, and spirit are long overdue. The beauty in travel is the ability to recharge and be inspired by what is around you. I’m not asking for much, just 1 big trip, 1 little trip, and many excursions. The beauty in living in the NY Metro area is that there’s a lot around me such as my fave museum The Met, and I’m dying to make it to the Smithsonian this year. And because I’m not a complete robot, I would like to see things grow with the man I’m currently dating who makes me laugh and dance in the kitchen to the Wobble Wobble… but we’ll save everything regarding me dating to the Dating in 2016 post that will be published on January 5th! In a nutshell, this year is about feeding my mind, body, heart, and spirit. #workhardplayharder
What to expect of Passionistas in 2016…
I’ve met some amazing women in 2015 and I know those relationships will continue to blossom, especially those amongst the Passionistas team and our contributors. There’s a lot brewing this year for Passionistas. We’ve been working a lot behind the scenes putting together an amazing editorial and event calendar, and I can’t wait to share (soon!) so stay tuned! The beauty about Passionistas is that it is founded on doing what you love and what makes you happy, so in a certain sense our job feels easy… yet awesome.
