Social media can be such a gift when used in a positive manner. Centuries ago, I met Beth Diana Smith on Twitter. To this day, I am not sure exactly how we found one another. However, it still amazes me how two women who live thousands of miles apart (she in New Jersey and me in Texas) could build such a genuine friendship without ever meeting in person. While we always cheered each other on, it was Beth’s new Facebook group for fellow, female entrepreneurs that ignited our solidarity as business bosses and life-long friends.
Fast forward years later, and here I am, the Editor-in-Chief of an extraordinary website that fills a void in the entrepreneurship community; all because this sweet girl from Jersey had a brilliant vision and entrusted me to help her bring it to life. We still have never met in person; only via FaceTime. Ah-freaking-mazing.
It is truly a blessing to have someone see something in you that you had let go long ago, a dream deferred. I have always enjoyed writing and dreamed of being a contributing writer for any magazine that would give me the time of day. My biggest goal was to be a writer for Vibe and Essence magazines. Now, I’m a part of something that’s as equally dope. Though I hold a degree in Mass Communications, my career path took a different path, which ultimately lead me to be an event designer and florist, as well as, a branding and marketing consultant. Never in a million years would I have guessed that I would be here. This is a testament that your plans may not go as you wish, but if you keep working, they will eventually come to fruition.
This new journey started out with me serving as a contributor, and then the editor of the Living section. Shortly after that, I was given the honor of taking the role of Editor-in-Chief. I still don’t think that Beth understands just how much of a blessing she and this opportunity have been to me. I don’t take this role lightly. I wholly believe in everything that the Passionistas brand promotes. I believe that my calling is to help other’s realize their potential and gain whatever success they seek. I am grateful that I have the platform to pull up so many other wonderful businesswomen, and let them know that they are not alone. You are not alone.
There are so many of us to continue to fight the day-to-day struggle to be the best that we can be in our businesses, corporate positions, homes, etc. We all have a story that can help at least one woman to keep pushing, one little girl to keep dreaming. I’m here to tell you never to stop. Keep working, Keep learning. Keep growing. Even if you don’t think that anyone is paying attention, keep doing you. I promise that eyes are on you…eyes that belong to someone who could change the entire trajectory of your business and your life for the better. Never settle. There are no do-overs. Give it your best every time. Be you. Be fabulous. Be a Passionista.
