“… the number one thing you have to do is protect the vessel: physically, emotionally, spiritually. Protect the vessel. Because when that breaks down, everything else breaks down.” – Oprah Winfrey
This is not an easy post to write. But it is the result of countless hours of thinking and soul searching, and learning to protect my vessel….
I will be dissolving Passionistas effective immediately, and as you can imagine this was not an easy decision to reach. Passionistas has been an amazing platform and I have built amazing relationships and have had the privilege to watch other relationships grow and prosper from this platform. The goal of Passionistas was to support female entrepreneurship from not only a business perspective but from a lifestyle perspective, because entrepreneurship itself is a lifestyle. As entrepreneurs we choose to do something that most will not do, we sacrifice, we plan, we dream, we create, and we chase our passion and have faith that what we are doing will sustain us mentally, spiritually, and financially. Entrepreneurship is a journey that we walk alone but we know it’s important to build relationships and partner with others who are walking that journey as well. We gather resources, we seek inspiration, we do everything we need to in order to see our success come to fruition. And that is the premise in which Passionistas was founded.
The seed for Passionistas was planted when I finally decided to leave my corporate finance life to become an interior designer full-time (which is a story in of itself). Although bringing Passionistas into fruition felt like a gift since I was blessed to have two passions, I put myself in a situation to be stretched across two full-time businesses which left my cup always empty (or with a little bourbon inside). I was not protecting my vessel, I was treating my vessel like a machine and that machine was always breaking down. It wasn’t until I read this quote from Oprah that I understood the gravity of the situation I had placed upon myself, “… the number one thing you have to do is protect the vessel: physically, emotionally, spiritually. Protect the vessel. Because when that breaks down, everything else breaks down.”
Passionistas deserves full-time attention and it’s disheartening to not be able to give it all that it deserves, and that was keeping me up at night. But I would not change the experience because it was an amazing ride filled with amazing people. Passionistas and myself were truly supported by some phenomenal women and for that I am thankful. Between the advisory board members, website editor, technology team, event team, content contributors, and vendors, I can clearly see how I was able to run both businesses for 3-years simultaneously. But there are a few people that I do specifically need to thank because they constantly went above and beyond, so my heartfelt thank you and love goes to Oniki Cole, Akua Boakye, Nadia Johnson-Beard, Frances Queen, Claudine Wilson, and Stacy Lloyd.
What’s next? There has been so much amazing content on the website that the site will remain as-is until August 16, 2018, allowing you access to all articles until that date. However, social media posts will be discontinued immediately. But overall this is not the end, this is a new beginning. The relationship we have built is not going away, just evolving into something greater. So I ask you to stay in touch (find me everywhere @bethdianasmith) and continue to remember that you are dope.
With love and my endless support,
