Vacation time doesn’t always equate to traveling, a staycation is a great alternative. It’s a way to rest and explore the town or city you live without the major cost. You can breakdown days to get an adequate amount of rest. Plus it leaves you with the opportunity to do things you never have time to do outside of vacation. If you deviate from the plan its not a big deal.
Relax. You’re on your own schedule so relax. Sleep in, take a nap during the day. Catch up on your favorite show. Read a book. Go to the spa for a massage or facial. Go to the beach, sit out on the deck, by a pool, or river.
Explore. You’ll be surprise what you can get into within in an hour radius of your location. The best thing to do is get a state tourism and travel guide. They are complete with parks, museums, festivals for each region and more than enough to get you going with a plan. Be sure to give 1-2 weeks for it to arrive. Some large cities like New York have their own visitor guides.
Exercise. You have the time to get a few workouts in why not make them fun. Try a new hiking trail. An exercise class like pilates, yoga, dancing like Zumba. Play golf, tennis, rock climb, go geocaching.
Leisure. Shopping, yes you have a little extra money and time. Head to an outlet, make a day out of it. See a movie, you can Netflix and chill, head to a matinee or even rent a dvd from your local library. See a show. Head to a theater or playhouse to support local artist. Go on an off night or early show, tickets are usually cheaper than weekend nights.
Eat. You have already saved a ton not paying for airfare and hotel fees. You can treat yourself to a few good meals at a new restaurant or two. Look on Groupon for discounts to restaurants. While you’re at it check out discounts for spa’s and reduced rates on museums, zoo, bowling, sports events and gaming spots too.
Staycations are the best alternative to spending big dollars traveling away during your time off. They certainly have their advantages. The discovery of something new and exciting right in your own backyard is incentive enough. No matter what you decide to do on your stay-at-home vacation, enjoy.
