Who: Tomayia Colvin-Nationally-Published & Award-Winning Senior Portrait Photographer. Best-selling Author. Philanthropist.
Hometown: Houston, TX
What: The Unboxed Project™, A Photography Exhibition and Artist Talk
Her “Why”: “As a classroom teacher and photographer, I realized how important it is to acknowledge teens and our young people. In today’s society, our youth are immersed in a culture of negative self-expressions that may lead to low self-esteem or self-worth. In addition, many teens are negatively portrayed in the media. The goal of The Unboxed Project exhibition is to showcase 25 teens from various backgrounds that are making strides in their community and are positive role models for others. I would like to take the negative spotlight off of teens and shine a bright light on the teens that are defying odds and changing their trajectory.”
The Unboxed Project is currently on a national tour. You can catch Tomayia on her next stop in New Orleans, LA on April 23, 2016.
